Hands Rochester Volunteer Centre recruits volunteers on behalf of charitable, voluntary and statutory bodies who have requested our assistance to find volunteers. We are currently seeking volunteers for Hands' Board of Trustees (see below for more information). In addition to recruiting volunteers for other organisations we have some directly managed services all of which require volunteer helpers.
The following schemes are always in need of volunteers:
- Transport Scheme - drivers with a clean licence and own car to provide transport to hospital and other medical appointments for elderly and less able people.
- Befriending/Visiting Scheme - visitors for elderly and less able people on a regular basis to provide contact and support.
- Office Helpers - computer literate volunteers often required to assist with the organisation and data input of our schemes and to answer incoming telephone enquiries.
- Lunch Club- our lively, fortnightly lunch club for elderly local residents of Lordswood in Chatham often needs helpers.
- Trustees - Join a team which participaties in the decision making process of the Bureau. You should be able to commit to attendance at committee meetings (held on the second Weds each month, usually in the evenings). You should be enthusiastic, self-driven and have an interest in furthering the aims of the Centre. All Committee Members are expected to work within Hands' Equal Opportunity framework. In order to effectively govern the organisation, all Committee Members should have one or more of the following: experience and/or knowledge of the voluntary sector and volunteering, knowledge of equal opportunities, good communication, marketing, ability to be objective/ impartial, fund raising, financial management, commitment to working within the democratic process, ability to commit some of their time to the organisation, training.
Supported Volunteers Scheme - the scheme has been developed to help, for example, people who may have a mental health issue or learning difficulties and feel uncertain about undertaking voluntary work we run a scheme which is designed to find the right volunteering opportunity for you and which will offer you ongoing support.
